Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

This is a financial inclusion campaign for Indian citizens in Banking Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance and Pension in an affordable manner was launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on 28 August 2014 as announced on his first Independence Day speech on 15 August 2014. This scheme has set a world record in bank account opening during any one week. The scheme is aimed at including maximum number of people in the banking mainstream.

An account can be opened in any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) outlet. PMJDY accounts are being opened with Zero balance. However, if the account-holder wishes to get cheque book, he/she will have to fulfill minimum balance criteria.
